Sardar Sarovar Dam, Kevadiya – Timings, Boating, Best Time to Visit
Sardar Sarovar Dam is the second largest dam in the world. Located near Kevadiya, Gujarat, the dam is about one km and 2 m long and one-hundred and sixty meters high. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone in 1961. Then, it was inaugurated in 2017. This represents the vision of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Timings and Entry
The dam is open from morning till evening (8:30 AM to 5:30 PM). The minimum entry fees are –
- ₹5 for adults
- ₹10 for cyclists
- ₹50 for cars
- ₹100 for buses
The dam is located about three km from the Statue of Unity. Hence, it is no doubt the closest place you can visit.
Boating Experience
If you are at the dam, you must go boating. It is one of the best experiences. You can see a unique viewpoint of the dam. Also, the surroundings also Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife Sanctuary. It is a forty five minute boat ride.
The price per adult for boating is ₹413. This includes GST and service costs. Children under five are admitted free of charge. But they must be accompanied by parents. You can also stop near the Status of Unity.

When Can You Visit?
You can visit the dam in winter months – most precisely, from October to March. These are the best times to visit the place. The weather is beautiful. Thus, making it perfect for outdoor activities.
You can visit in the early morning or late afternoon. Early morning, you can see the dam with the sun rising in the back. Also, it’s less crowded during these times.
The dam site is easily accessible and well-maintained. You can also get e-rickshaws. It makes the commute easy. You can spend roughly 2-3 hours at the dam. This includes time for boating and exploring the surroundings.
